Conference on the contribution of the grape market to the economy

The Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the UCLM in Albacete has held the conference “Grape markets: experiences and contributions of grapes to the economy”, which has focused on exploring other alternative markets to wine such as must .

Representatives of the company Julián Soler SA, member of our Association of Importers and Exporters of Albacete (ADIEX), have participated in the conference “Grape markets: experiences and contributions of grapes to the economy”, an activity promoted by the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and the Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities of Castilla-La Mancha.

The main hall of the Melchor de Macanaz building hosted this day, in whose presentation the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences, Francisco Escribano, participated; the president of the Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities of Castilla-La Mancha, Luis Arroyo Zapatero; and the president of the Economics Section of said academy, Rosario Gandoy. An event that served to present the Academy and the first of its books “Wine and Life” in Albacete.

Prior to his intervention, Luis Arroyo spoke about this event, in which, together with the Academy, the first book born in it is also presented: “Wine and Life”. A work, as he pointed out, with which he has attempted to think about how to increase the added value of the vine and wine through the social sciences and humanities.

“To promote the wine of our region we have thought about using economic reflection,” he indicated, while recalling that Spain produces half of Europe's wine, that is, four cubic hectometers, of which two are produced in Castilla. The Mancha. “The problem is selling everything we produce at a good price, and it is not easy, so what we intend is to improve that, because our wine has enough quality to be sold and, above all, to be drunk. We are light years away from technology, the terrain is the same, but the cultivation is different and the production of wine, much more,” he stated.

For his part, Francisco Escribano referred to this event as a meeting point between businessmen, winegrowers and those interested in the sector, who delve into other alternative grape markets such as must. “We are leaders at a national and almost international level,” he noted, while highlighting issues such as the role that research and innovation has had in the extraction of an ink with which works of art have been made (Vidartis Project), or the work of one of the traditional wineries in Albacete, which has changed its mode of production and has turned its winery into a museum.

After the welcome, different talks were held in which Ramiro Martínez, graduate of the Faculty and CEO/general director of Julián Soler SA, participated; Ana Soler, president of Julián Soler SA; the general director of Torres Filoso, Rocío Torres; the commercial director of Viñedos Balmoral-Edoné & Maravides, Carlos García; and the director of the UCLM Gastronomy chair, Francisco Montero.
