Globalcaja supports the Castilian-La Mancha olive oil sector in its largest global meeting, the World Olive Oil Exhition

Since its first edition, the financial entity has sponsored this fair that brings together buyers, producers and professionals from the sector in Madrid for two days.

The president of Globalcaja, Mariano Leon, has participated in the inaugural opening of the largest fair in the world dedicated exclusively to olive oil, the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE). A professional appointment that counts from its first edition sponsored by Globalcaja and which for two days brings together buyers, producers and professionals from the sector at IFEMA-Madrid.

globalbox, in another example of its commitment to our land and to the agri-food sector, accompanies oil mills and cooperatives from Castilla-La Mancha, with the aim that they find in this fair, organized by the Castilian-La Mancha company Pomona Keepers, a tool promotion and marketing, and translates into real business opportunities.

This purpose frames Globalcaja's collaboration at the WOOE, a fair that also focuses on a crop, the olive grove, which is key to establishing population in rural areas and which has important weight in Castilla-La Mancha. Not in vain, our autonomous community is the second producing region in Spain, after Andalusia.

There are more than 75 oil mills and companies from Castilla-La Mancha that are represented at this international fair, among others, Colival, with its Valdenvero and Sierra Prieta oils; the Cózar de la Sierra cooperative, which markets its production under the Reflejos brand; the Virgen del Carmen Cooperative, from Almodóvar del Campo (Covicar), with its Dehesa de Almodóvar oils; Oil Pepillo; the Vidabol Group, which brings together the oil mills of Campo de Calatrava, El Progreso, Los Pozos and Alta Alcarria, or Montes Norte, which has been recognized in this edition with one of the WOOE excellence awards for structuring the population and generating wealth in rural areas.

Some of the five designations of origin of olive oil in the region are also present, such as Montes de Toledo or Campo de Montiel, and the Provincial Councils of Albacete and Ciudad Real, providing coverage to the oil mills in their provinces.

Mariano Leon, who on this first day of the WOOE has been accompanied by the president of his Foundation in Cuenca, Carlos de la Sierra; the director of Rural Banking, Alberto Marcilla; the director of Institutional Relations, Antonio González, and other professionals from the entity, have had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the situation of the sector, through the producers themselves and institutional representatives, such as the Minister of Agriculture, Julián Martínez Lizán, the president of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, Miguel Angel Valverde, and the president of the Albacete Provincial Council, Santiago Cabañero, among others.

From the drop in production to oleotourism

This edition of the World Olive Oil Exhibition is marked, without a doubt, by the difficulty of reconciling supply and demand of this food, whose qualities are increasingly appreciated and which, due to the climatic adversities that have especially punished this crop, accumulates two campaigns with a decrease in its production of around 50%.

During these two days, more than 800 oil mills and visitors from 57 countries will be present at WOOE, which has already become an unmissable event for those who want to publicize their products and be aware of market trends. In this edition, 93% of Spanish olive oil production is present.

The WOOE combines the presence of exhibitors for the business, with a program of conferences, tastings and a gourmet area where you can taste gastronomic creations that have olive oil as the protagonist. In this edition of the World Olive Oil Exhibition, oil tourism also has a special place, as more and more oil mills are adapted to receive visitors, as a source of wealth and promotion of their production.
