The pandemic reduces Albacete exports by 11,5%

The first semester represented a turnover of 496,2 million in products and services that companies in the province sold to other countries, and imports also fell by 5,9%

El COVID year it leaves its trace in foreign trade movements, with fewer exports and imports, although the province of Albacete notices this change in trend less in percentage terms, after many years of gradual increase in sales outside of Spain. Yesterday the Ministry of Industry updated the data to complete the statistics for the first half of 2020: Throughout the country, exports fell more, almost 16%, and imports close to 19%, and of course it is not an isolated decrease. Exports also decreased in Germany (15,4%), France (21,5%) and Italy (15,3%), among other European nations.

In Albacete the blow is less; from January to June the volume of exports falls by 11,5% compared to 2019. Products and services were sold to other countries worth 496,2 million euros, and in the region it is the second lowest figure; only Cuenca has a lower figure, while Toledo is the most exporting province, with more than 900 million euros of business in six months.

Regarding imports, this year the province bought in other countries for a value of 417,9 million euros, 5,9% less than last year. Regarding the evolution of foreign trade as a whole for Castilla-La Mancha, exports fell by 2020% in 7,7 with the first half of the year computed, and imports decreased by only 2,2%.

In the province's foreign trade statistics, it is stated that food and beverages, which includes wine, are the main group in sales to other countries of companies from Albacete. 39% of this year's turnover for exports respond to food and beverages, or that in whole numbers translates into 193,6 million euros of sales this year, between January and June. In fact, despite the global health emergency, Albacete currently exports more food and beverages this 2020 compared to 2019, 1,4% more, specifically. Yes, there is a significant drop in sales of the second group with the highest turnover in exports from the province, that of capital goods. Capital goods worth almost 98 million euros were exported to other countries, close to 20% of the foreign trade turnover this first semester, however it is 17,2% less than exports compared to sales between January and June of last year.

Millions of euros of the turnover of Albacete exports this first half of 2020 correspond to the sale of food and beverages, 39% of all foreign trade of local and provincial companies. In fact, exports of food and beverages from Albacete have increased by 1,4% this year.

Millions of euros of the province's export turnover are capital goods, 19,7% of foreign trade. In this case, the comparison with the billing of 2019 gives a negative result, 17,2% less business.
